About the Book

A Story of Childhood, Courage & Hope

A long time ago, the world suddenly got very quiet. Schools closed, grown-ups spoke in worried voices, and children found themselves living through a time they could never fully understand. Then came the masks. With their little cloth masks puffing out as they talked and moved as they breathed, children began to look like something wonderfully strange Beak People.

They learned to communicate with their eyes, stand apart on marked lines, attend school through glowing screens, and wait patiently when technology stopped working. They missed lunchrooms, hallways, friends, grandparents, and all the ordinary moments that suddenly felt so important.

But children are remarkably good at finding light in difficult places. They waved through windows, drew pictures on sidewalks, mailed drawings to grandparents, and discovered small ways to stay connected.
